EDUCATION
There are over 2 million indigenous children in Guatemala that do not attend school and the majority of them are girls. Although public school is free to attend, there are required materials that the student must purchase that makes it impossible for many to attend school. The student must purchase a school uniform, shoes, books, notebooks, backpack, materials for special school projects, etc. The price for all of this exceeds most family's income for at least 6 months.
Through your generous donations to Nueva Generación, we provide scholarships to 90 students so they can attend school. Nueva Generación believes education is the only way to break the cycle of poverty and that every child should have access to an education through high school. The student is required to maintain an overall average of 75 or higher each semester to keep their scholarship. This gives the student the incentive to study and their parents the incentive to help and encourage their child.
Nueva Generación works with the local schools, teachers and school administrators to ensure they are able to provide a quality education to every child.
